We know how challenging those first few weeks with a newborn can be. To ease the transition, Oakleaf coordinates a meal train so fresh meals are delivered right to the family’s door. Whenever possible, an Oakleaf member delivers the meal in person—sharing a friendly visit, checking in, and offering support. Meals may also be dropped off discreetly by a member or through a delivery service. With the family’s permission, we also celebrate new arrivals by sharing birth announcements in the Oakleaf newsletter.

Our Deployment Buddy Program pairs each spouse whose service member is deployed with another Oakleaf member for ongoing support. Buddies connect at least once a month to check in, share encouragement, and offer help when needed. The Club also celebrates homecomings by featuring reunion announcements in the newsletter.

Our response varies with each situation, but our goal is always the same—to acknowledge what a family is going through and to offer support in a caring, positive way. For this type of outreach, we take special care to respect and protect confidentiality.

We typically send flowers or make a donation to the family’s chosen charity, accompanied by a personalized card. When a loss deeply affects many in our Oakleaf community, we remain flexible and may expand our outreach to reflect the significance of the moment.

Additionally, we recognize our club’s need to handle transitions, especially during PCS season.  As such, we plan an annual Hail and Farewell event to say goodbye to our members who will be leaving.
